BACOPA MONNIERI
description & usage
This herb spread on ground and its stems are succulent in nature. Roots arise from every node of the stems. Flowers are borne on short pedicels. The corolla is bluish white in colour. It is found in moist places particularly water channels, wells, irrigated field, etc in all parts of India.
Uses :
Coughs, rheumatism, asthma, snake-bite.
How to Use:
Half a tola of the fresh juice of the leaves boiled with ghee and formed into a ghrita or mixed with two scruples of root of Aplotaxis auriculata and honey is given in insanity, epilepsy and bilious disorders. Juice of the leaves is given in the diarrhoea of children ; as lep it is applied to swellings. Juice mixed with petroleum is a good application in rheumatism. The drug is also used in asthma and snake-bite. The drug is also used in the form of syrup ; dose : 1 to 2 drachms twice a day after meals. An oil is also prepared with this drug which is used in habitual headaches, to relieve brain-fag, etc.
