Definition
Syphilis - a venereal disease caused by Treponema pallidum, leading to many structural and cutaneous lesions, transmitted by direct sexual contact or in utero.
causes, incidence and risk factors:An infection caused by Treponema pallidum, characterised by primary, asymtomatic, featureless but sero-positive Latent phase and Tertiary stages.
Primary stage:presenting with chancre, usually genital, with regional lymphadenopathy, Secondary stage: with non-pruritic symmetric rash, patchy alopacia, moist warty condylomata, or general lymphaedenopathy, and mild Hepato - splenomegaly, and Tertiary stage with gummas or cardiovascular or Neuro syphilis, congenital syphilis is acquired in utero. |
