            Flatulence - Excessive formation of gases in stomach or intestine.

Causes, Incidence and Risk Factors

Normal gas in G.I tract amounts from 500 to 1500 ml. Accumulated from swallowed air and bacterial fermentation of undigested carbohydrates and is passed periodically during 24 hours.
Subjective feeling of "Distension with gas" had not correlated with more gas volumes. Most patients with 'gas problem' turn out to have 'Irritable bowel syndrome' or 'Non-ulcer Dyspepsia' or other functional and psycological problems.
Excessive amounts ,especially with attendant diarrhoea , would suggest malabsorption.
