Definition

An acute viral illness characterized by ulcers and lesions covering the tongue soft palate, tonsils or insides checks or gums . 

Causes, Incidence and Risk factors:

This is a viral disease unusually seen in adults, resulting from reactivation of chicken pox virus lying dorment on dorsal root ganglia.
Herpes Simplex  : It is caused by DNA Virus

Herpes Zoster     : Due to Re-activation of varicella zoster virus (chicken pox) Herpes Zoster       patients can transmit chicken - pox to others.
