Nutmeg tree is indigenous to the Malay Peninsula and Penang. It has been successfully cultivated in Kerala, Tamil nadu (Nilgiri Hills).
Uses:
Diarrhoea, Asthma, colic, neuralgia, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea, spasmodic cough, lumbago etc.
How to Use:
A compound powder made of nutmeg and dry ginger each five grains and Caraway 10 grains is a good carminative taken before meals. Half a drachm of the simple powder of nutmeg administered in milk cures cases of summer diarrhoea. The dose of powdered nutmeg or mace, is from 5 to 15 grains; of the oil - from 1 to 3 drops ; of the spirit (1 in 10) - 1/2 to 1 drachm. Mace is useful in low stages of fever, in consumptive complaints, humoral asthma, and with aromatics in wasting and long-continued bowel complaints. A paste of it is used as an application to the head in headache, palsy etc., a poultice of it applied round the eyes strengthens the sight.
